We may not be a match in this life, but damn, does your soul see mine as if it always has.

Poems I have written and shared on Instagram.

We may not be a match in this life, but damn, does your soul see mine as if it always has.

Dear sister
I see you
How your heart is bleeding
How your soul is aching
You are transforming
Becoming so much more
Than you imagined you were or could be
You are becoming a diamond
Under all of the pressure
One worthy to be the center piece
Of your own glorious crown
I can't wait to see how you shine

Glass on asphalt
Making a mosaic
Of the mundane world

I need to unlearn your touch
The sound of your breathing
Next to me in the dark
I need to unlearn a lifetime
Of everything about you

She dressed for the night
Draped in shadows and silver
Making friends with the darkness

Holding hands in matching rockers
Laughing about when we were young
You reminiscing about record stores and ska shows
As I tell our grandchildren tales of magic
Spending our sunset days in loving conversations
Each other's best bestie
Strolling into the ever after that follows the happily
-gws

Inelegant and rough hewn
Invisible to all but me
Oppressive and injurious
This prison of grief and fear
Holds me fast
Arrested
The key to joy held tight in my hand
I wait for the guard to look away
So I can fly free

Sometimes
The simple act of cleaning a toilet
Can feel like redemption

A friend said to me,
“Remember you didn’t cause it.
You couldn’t have prevented it.
You have nothing to feel guilty for.
It is okay to grieve.
There is much to grieve,
But do not confuse grief with guilt.”
I did not know how much I needed
These words until they were spoken.

Everyone who has ever loved you
Have put their hands up and
Taken a step back
Now they are looking at me
Wondering if now is when
I will finally do the same
