Mechanical Wings

He spoke to me of mechanical wings
They appeared within a broken dream
Born of fractured thoughts and roughened pieces
And so these wings become his thesis

Of chrome and shadow
His masterpiece risen
His body lay fallow
Both betrayer and prison

However he envisions that he flies
As he dreams of untethered skies
Let hope be the power to help him heal
Born of pain transformed to magic and steel

Say the Thing, Make it Awkward

Photo by Nikolaos Dimou on Pexels.com
Say the thing
Make it awkward

For we never know when the final fickle Fate
Will wield her scissors and snip a thread from our tapestry
Forever severing a connection
An action that cannot be undone

"I love you."
"I miss you."
"I care about you."
"You are important to me."
"My life is better with you in it."

Whatever the thing is you feel
SAY IT
And let it go
Knowing that you have released love
In some version
Into the life of someone you care for in some way

We are fortunate to have our lives
Woven with many threads
But as gently as we are entangled together
The severing and unraveling are inevitable
Sharp and severe
We will have loss
But we do not have to have regret

Say the thing
Make it awkward

Only Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos
See the grand weaving of our lives
How each chapter of our lives will unfold
And how and when those varied chapters will end
Within those pages we are gifted with the opportunity of choice
To give and receive love with the others in our story

Say the thing
Make it awkward

Songbird and the Sapling

Photo by Hal Moran on Pexels.com
"It's Spring!" the little songbird sang,
excitement trilling in her voice.

"It is winter," groaned the sleepy sapling
whose roots were enshrouded in icy soil.

"But the sun is SO warm," whistled the songbird.

"Yes, but the ground is still SO cold," creaked the sapling
"Puff up, my small friend, and sleep with me a little longer.
When my buds start to sprout, we will both sing a song of
welcome for Spring."

So the songbird tucked up into a nook in the saplings branches
and together they hunkered down to wait for Spring to truly arrive.

Cellophane Love Notes

You will never love me the way I love you
And that's ok
Because loving you makes me brighter
Loving you gives my words weight
And my dreams color
It's longing for you that I will avoid doing
It's hoping that one day you will love me back
That I cannot let my heart abide
It's not that you do not care
You care deeply
Devotedly
But it is not the same as love reciprocated
And I cannot conflate the two
Or I will drown in heartbreak of my own creation
Instead I sit in the the patch of warm sunlight that is your affection
Feeling content in being seen
Being heard
Being cared for
In ways few others do
I attach cellophane love notes to the walls of my beautiful prison
Declaring "I love you!" in invisible ink that you will never see
You will never love me the way I love you
But you love me nonetheless in your own way
And I will let that be enough

Your Birthday

Photo by George Dolgikh @ Giftpundits.com on Pexels.com
Your birthday has arrived again
An honored remembrance of the day
When your spirit debuted into the world
In a sacred vessel made of water and earth
A joyous day, indeed
Your value is beyond measure
Your insight has no equal
You cast no shadow upon the ground
For you are a source of light
Full of humor and mischief
Love and compassion
There is no one else like you
And let it be known how honored I am
To call you, Friend

Fierce Friends

Photo by Marcus Aurelius on Pexels.com
Yesterday I saw a friend for the first time in a long time. Although it hadn't been terribly long, a lot of life happened for both of us since I last saw them. We hugged each other fiercely, as if quenching a long neglected thirst. The power of the moment, the energy and emotion that flew across the room and into my unknowingly needful arms was surprisingly welcome. Everything stopped for a few heartbeats as we existed in the silent contentment of a deeply longed for and comforting embrace. They are kindred. Family. Precious to me in ways I have no need to explain. Being with them is like sipping sweet water for my soul. Time together is always precious and seems never long enough. I look forward to the next visit together.
